I think Congresses feeds the need, if there was not a demand then people would not be teaching it.
I know a lot of dancers who look forward to learning routines, from some of the top instructors and performers and I don't see this ever changing.
I think there are a lot of teachers out there with no dance training other than what they have been taught in Salsa, what is needed, is how to get training in order to make them better instructors and not to condemn routines,
And the point is.. WHO created that need ??? ( 3 guesses and I only need one ).I still will disagree that teaching " routines " to the inexperienced, is a formula for disaster..
The general public are conditioned by prof. as to WHAT they teach... e.g. in the B/room world, even tho the Demos are world class quality, we do not create a demand for instant dance.. in the salsa world, it seems to me ( in the States also ) that we ( teachers that is ) accept that request and fulfill it at the expense of sound teaching principles.
And yes.. I know what sells.. flash and trash,, thats universal, but a defeatist attitude is not in my vocabulary..
let me give another e.g.... i was invited to lecture at a major B/room congress in the recent past.. ( had over 400 people in the room, mostly teachers ).. I only taught a VERY basic sequence in 2 dances, 4 variations, and they were well recd.
Point being, its conditioning. And i also know you cannot turn the salsa clock backwards.. thats not really my point.
You highlited the point for me.. the same old same old.. the lack of prof training in dance discipline that is lacking in general .
I cannot even count the number of times students from other locales have asked the Q.. " why has no one ever mentioned this before etc. ".. and Im speaking to fundamental basic concepts.. there are teachers out there ( Im sure, even some who post on this site ) that have the knowledge and the know how.
I would willingly run a teachers w/end training camp for cost.. problem ?.. probably no takers !!..
