I don't think the dancers create the need, I think salsa teachers who have no experience of teaching other than salsa create the need,

if this is the case, then how did they learn, what did they want to learn prior top becoming teachers.

Majority of people dancing salsa learned to dance because they were inspired in some way by watching someone dancing and doing turn patterns, nearly all the guys (who are the main culprits) that learn to dance salsa, want to learn turn patterns, this is how it was when I started and it is still the same today, Congresses and teachers with no other experience salsa has nothing to do with this as in the early 90's the people teaching were Columbian and Cuban with a plenty of dance experience.


I had a similar conversation with Eddie Torres himself who said, he wanted to teach people to dance and they said no I want turn patterns.
