If you were a follower I would be broadly sympathetic but as a leader don't you think you are missing a trick here?
Wes, not at all. Which point and trick am I missing? At each level of dance class, everyone (teachers & students) expect pre-requistes (unless, of course, absolute beginners whre prio knowledge is not assumed) otherwise what is the point in learning? Did someone stated, "Learn how to standing up properly before attempting walking, and comprehend walking dexterity before attempting running?"
At Intermediate level of Salsa class, learners should know how to dance to music competently, basic Mambo steps, single right and left turns, and, importantly, if it is LA style Salsa that is being learned or taught then CBL. If one hasn't any competence in any of these then return to beginners level.
I find those struggling followers actually very useful for my own learning.
It depends how much struggle those struggling followers actually are. If I need to 'push and pull' them like a sack of potatoes then it doesn't help, does it?
They force me to lead them for starters whereas the better girls can almost do the routine by themselves. Trying the routine with them also highlights which moves are pretty much universally leadable and which ones require the girl to know 'her part'. I'd rather work this out during the class than on the dance floor.
I would mind dancing with them, but I do obejct learne with those who haven't any clue about following and their own fundamental steps.
