I suppose each needs to be witnessed and experienced, individually, upon their own merits.
I just recalled a written conversation I had with one of the B/rooms most revered technicians, many moons ago ( his book was the bible in the B/room genre ).
I actually proposed a similar argument , that there was a flaw in the exam process.. it only ( still does ) examine on technical and theoretical aspects.. his response.. there was no practical way that it could be achieved ( time constraints + cost ).
In addition , the counter argument, was that to take an exam, one had to have been monitored for a period of one yr. in a recognised dance facility.. a mentoring system .
