I agree with the above two posts except to add that marketing to an existing salsa audience is difficult enough for 'old hands' to get right. We're not an easy bunch to please; we like good floors, soft drinks (cheap) the 'right' djs (ask ten people you'll get 10 differing opinions), a great line up of teachers (and we especially like it if they dance with us too ;) ), don't care too much about the accommodation and preferably we'd like all that for ten bob.
On the other hand newbies; don't give a hoot about the floor, don't mind paying more to get lashed into the bargain and may want to bring said cocktail onto the dancefloor, couldn't care who's djing as long as they're playing 'that Ricky Martin one that goes da da da da da etc), don't know who the teachers are and won't know whether they came out at night or not, pretty good accommodation and don't begrudge a night out for fifty quid.
In other words salsa dancers and beginners are a bit like oil and water.
