I KNOW this one has been done to death but hopefully this is a slightly new perspective that might help.
I have heard today that a well established promoter has recently lost 2 superb venues is short succession due to poor bar takings despite having good numbers.
I have visited these venues and on both occasions they are making jugs of water freely available to their dancers.
What do they expect to happen?
Promoters need to educate people through CONTINUOUS announcements, emails, large signs on the bar stating that just drinking tap water will kill their salsa venue dead (signs on their own are NOT enough)
Of course this will upset one or two dancers (most of them on this forum no doubt) but better that than upsetting 100 people who can no longer attend their favourite venue.
We have done this for 3 years, tap water is rarely ordered and we have never lost a venue due to tap water issues.
So come on promoters, be brave, be bold and educate your dancers. Be upfront and TELL them. If we all do this there may eventually be a cultural shift making TAP WATER a rarely drunk commodity at salsa events (or at least not drunk in quantities that result in losing the venue).
Sorry if this sparks off all the old responses we have heard a million times from people who are lovers of tap water. Unless promoters take responsibility to educate their dancers this problem will never go away.
