Interesting dilemma........ If you are as you say " fully etc." , then you surely must have run into this before ?

I have this happen quite frequently in ALL the genres I teach.

It, to me, would depend on the number of people who were in the beginner div. and if in sufficient numbers ( which I do now in some of my classes ) I teach a " split " class.( even if not, would take aside the few and give them more advanced work )

By this I mmean dividing them into 2 groups and giving each group an assignment that will keep them occupied as rotate the class .

I also would confront the person who employed you, and explain in detail the complexity of teaching a mixed group .
One always has to consider that the majority of venues know little or nothing about class " make up " . So.... this should always be discussed before the event .

By the way.. I admire your standing, on principle .

And, I would consult an attorney.. I do not believe that payment can be withheld
