El D's post is right on the button as far as the attitude promoters should adopt i.e. 'zero tap water tolerance'.
Hopefully it will never have to come to a ban but customers should know in no uncertain terms the detrimental results of continuous tap water ordering.
But as already stated it is up to the promoter to educate their customers.
We check tap water figures with the bar staff at the end of every night and if it goes up over 5%, ie 5 servings of tap water amongst 100 customers I make a firm and polite announcement at the start of the next class stating the facts ie 'last week saw a rise in tap water being ordered, if this continues we lose the venue, do you want that to happen?' We always get a loud 'No' from the educated. 'Great, in that case please order bottled water, if we support the venue, they will support us, if not...we end up in a village hall and they dont smell nice....thank you.'
This upsets one or two avid tap water drinkers who dont return. As they are putting everyone’s salsa venue in jeopardy they are not at all missed.
Harsh but true.
