Have you noticed the Salsa scene is getting ridiculed with WEEKENDERS. Whats happened to the dance clubs & socials, in London I can only visual two that are with a good level of dancers, Ealing Town Hall Fridays, SOS Sundays, Salsology Fridays in the north (Manchester) and looks like SCALA (as a monthly) has improved by far with the new djs and line up,s also Wessex House has stepped up its game as the most busiest weekday night, apart from Bar Salsa Wednesdays (which I haven’t been to for a while, so I cant comment in crowd numbers). But what with these weekenders at £200 + a time. No wonder PY is not fussed about this years UK Congress, his made his income and has probably seen the market for this event is priceless, and gone in another direction. The other thing on these weekenders it’s the same old faces, the same format, this years five star Raddison was excellent, because it had two major changes, those who wanted to see shows were given a dedicated place to watch the shows, and the band from New York made the major difference.
If Salseros cant even buy a drink of juice at the Bar, where on earth is the cash going to spring from for these weekenders. If a Salsero went to 5 congresses a year, that’s an average spend of about £1,200 you can get a great inclusive holiday for that and find some great Salsa clubs and socials depending on where you go mind you.
