Nice diatribe which I didn't read past 'economic argument' as you don't have one.
You and your like want to maximise your profit by charging us, the punter, and then expect us to also subsidise your hiring costs by throwing money away over the bar!
Next you'll be forcing those who don't drink booze/soft drinks OR free water, at the threat of a ban from your little shindigs, to buy liquid, yet again to subsidise YOU and YOUR profit margins.
We go to be taught, to dance, and to listen to good music. If we choose to buy a drink, that's our choice, if we choose to ask for water, that is our choice and a legal right.
You're nothing short of a fascist who wants both our money in his pocket, our money behind the bar while maximising his own profit and denying people freedom of choice in exercising a legal right to water in bars/clubs.
You can hide behind the 'we'll lose the venue if you don't buy drinks' crap all you like but you're not fooling anyone. The bottom line is the bottom line which is you making as much profit for yourself as possible and the best way in doing that is to keep your hiring charge low and expecting the punters, us, to sub you, by giving money over the bar!
And YOU have the bare-faced cheek to call anyone a sponger!
