The teachers are just playing the salsa they've heard in other clubs etc, there is not much independent choice at work, they copy each other
Literally - to save time and money they copy each other's CDs, consequently by the time the teachers/DJs get the tunes they're 5th generation copies with little bass or top end, and the teacher/DJ has zero idea who the artist is. Obviously some buy their music, and know who the artists they're playing are, they seem to be in the minority. Whether the music is suitable for the style of dance? Deemed to be of little or no relevance, as long as the track sounds similar to the mainstream crap on the radio and you can go 1,2,3 . . 5,6,7 to it. Indeed in many lessons/clubs some tunes are exactly what you hear on the radio, and I don't mean on Latin stations.
