Literally - to save time and money they copy each other's CDs, consequently by the time the teachers/DJs get the tunes they're 5th generation copies with little bass or top end


A CD is just a collection of 0s and 1s i.e. digital encoding of music. A digital copy cannot lose bass and top end as digital copying should be perfect. It's not like DNA replication where you get an occasional mutation. The loss is more likely something to do with the sound system or possibly that the 'original' CD is not itself even original but rather a lossy (compressed) format such as mp3 which never had the frequencies you're not supposed to be able to hear.

BTW, "it ain't what you do it's the way that you do it" was one of my favourites ;-)
