A CD is just a collection of 0s and 1s i.e. digital encoding of music. A digital copy cannot lose bass and top end as digital copying should be perfect. It's not like DNA replication where you get an occasional mutation. The loss is more likely something to do with the sound system or possibly that the 'original' CD is not itself even original but rather a lossy (compressed) format such as mp3 which never had the frequencies you're not supposed to be able to hear.

BTW, "it ain't what you do it's the way that you do it" was one of my favourites ;-)

I can't quote the technological facts to back this up, but all my experience shows CDs copied on laptops are not as good as the original, therfore a copy of a copy will be even more inferior. However, a CD copied on a stand alone CD burner (i.e. the sort that don't need attaching to a computer) is normally almost identical to the original.
I agree though in that many of these CDs are copied from mp3s or a similar format, which accounts for the flat sound. And most venues' sound systems leave a lot to be desired. And most DJs are incapable and unwilling to adjust the sound to make the most of the system.
