Andrew is right about the lossless nature of copying digital media/information ... But, often the problem is because when copying form an original (or otherwise) people don't choose or even realise they need to choose the desired settings for the copying to be at its best!!!

So they end up with a compromise default setting being applied by the copying software they are using and that is often inferior as the program assumes you may wish to have an acceptable (not best) copy so as not to take up so much room on your hard drive ... In other words a smaller file size!
Often smaller file size = diminished quality!
