Surely the energy levels required depends on the routine? If you put three lifts in a salsa routine, multiple spins and perform it to a fast track it's going to take as much effort and energy as V. waltz or quickstep?

NO contest.. I dance and teach ( not as frequently anymore ) VW, and still dance and teach QS ( 1 on 1 )

Try dancing a QS at its correct speed ( 52 bars a minute ) for 3 minutes with no " breaks" or pauses , as we do have in salsa, it will quickly answer your Q .and I,m giving you empirical evidence .. add VW at 60 bars per minute.. well, dont even ask !!.

Jive and Lindy are equally as demanding.. remember.. in salsa, the man is frequently an " anchor " and is stationary more times than the lady ( or should be )the "work " ratio in Latin in general, is not equally shared .

Up until recenly, I frequently danced salsa ( when a good dancer was available ) for 45 mins plus without a break ( no pun )I dont think there is ANY dancer who could sustain that in any of the above dances for that time period.
