Depends on where you lived in the States.. it took much longer to filter down to the smaller towns and northern areas.
The chain schools didnt really take it on board ( teaching style ) for many yrs.
As to appearance.. it again depends upon location.. the music became accepted, but the Mambo influence was ingrained, and the newer styles were somewhat rejected .
