Championship with over 40 area heats all around the United Kingdom sending their Salsa dancers to London for the Grand Finals. All the heats were judged by UKA qualified Salsa instructors.

If you speak to any of the 800 people in attendance, they will all tell you what an exciting evening it was - great dancing for the onlooker, with live music from Bombele and the latest tracks by DJ Tony M from Salsamaniac and Julian the Duke.

The Championship itself, with 42 couples starting out and slowly reducing to the final 7 for the Great Grand Final.

Once again the judging was carried out by 11 UKA qualified instructors:-

and what a job that turned out to be - the excitement grew and grew, both for the competitors and the onlookers, until we finally had a result:-

The 1st. ever Official British Salsa Champions were JOSEPH KONIAK & IRIS DE BRITO followed by, with only 1 vote less, LEON ROSE & SUSANA MONTERO and both couples went on to represent Great Britain in the World Salsa Championships in Miami.

Well the excitement goes on, because this year 2000, it's even bigger than last year. With the phone still ringing for Clubs wanting to hold a heat or two and be part of this fantastic event, we already have over 60 heats, with Clubs such as Bar Med running 9 area heats of their own, culminating in their own finals on 9 July at Beaconsfield.

We are planning for the GRAND FINAL'S DAY on SUNDAY 1ST. OCTOBER, 2000 at CAESAR'S, STREATHAM HILL - plenty of general dancing, competitions for Social Dancers and Medallists, Beginners/Bronze; Improvers/Silver; Intermediate/Gold & Advanced. Fun competitions for 2 Boys 1 Girl; 2 Girls 1 Boy; All Girl Couple; All Boy Couple as well, of course, as the British Salsa Championship, Merengue and Mambo plus, by invitation, Rueda Championship.

The winners of the Br will receive a prize sponsored by "DANCE HOLIDAYS" of a 10 DAY HOLIDAY IN MIAMI which will include entry to the WORLD SALSA CHAMPIONSHIP and an invitation to take part in the EUROPEAN SALSA CHAMPIONSHIP to be held in BELGIUM in 2001.

As last year, all the judges will be UKA qualified, which has been made much easier this year with many more instructors taking the Professional Assessment - proving to an independent party just how good an instructor they are.
