Quick question to those of you that dance/teach other partner dances.

Do other genres have a figure which is functionally similar to the cross body lead. This figure (manoeuvre? unsure of the terminology here) seems to be fundemental to the dance. It serves the purpose of allowing the couple to switch positions and also serves as the foundation on which many other 'figures' are built.

I was idley wondering if ballroom dances (for example) and others employ a similar 'figure'. I mean more in the sense of the function it performs rather than actually looking like a cross body lead. if so do these 'figures' have names?

I am not sure I am expressing myself clearly here - sorry if not.
